ta da...dorothy

i always under estimate how much is "left to do" on a sewing project.  right now i am crashing....that one hour sleep last night was not near enough.

however the fact that she is still wearing the costume at 5:39 pm makes it worth it.

this one is definitely one of my favorite outcomes....up there with spyro the dragon, tinker bell, madelineflaron and the ty frog.  the shoes did it!!  and they stayed together.  a little repair to the sole.  i had covered the soles with black hockey tape to protect the ribbon that was stapled to the bottom of the shoe from getting holes wore in through it and a bit of the tape had to be replaced but otherwise they were perfect!  she wore them all day and walked home from school with them on.  made me carry her coat, backpack and treat bag so she could focus on holding her basket and enjoy being dorothy!

following the yellow brick road

i am here!!  i swear it but am on an adventure, following the yellow brick road.  making the perfect....and i mean perfect, right down to the ruby slippers perfect, dorothy costume for amber.  has to be done by friday.

john said why can't she just wear the pink shoes.  what?!?  he does not get it.  they have to be ruby slippers.  even if it means pain stakingly sewing and stapling red glittered ribbon to her shoes!

i have not forgotten

a first.  i am blogging from work on my break.  i have not forgotten about the contest.  i need amber to pull a name out of a hat.  i know, i know, how hard can it be to write a few names down on some pieces of paper and throw them into a hat and have the ten year old pull one out?  well i am here to officially tell you....h.a.r.d. busy took my laptop to work to post crazy life hard.  i promise tomorrow to post the winner.  till awesome!

look for it...look for you see it?

i kid you not, that two seconds after taking this photo, a patron asked where he could find robert munch books.  i showed him and he said, oh that's awesome thanks.  perfect!!

blogger love

i love that fellow bloggers are so awesome.  (there is that word again...awesome.....only a few more hours to enter the contest!)

a while back valerie sent me sock yarn scraps.  lots of it.  for my sockghan a.k.a. crackghan.  i worked on it the whole time we were away the end of the summer and it has taken me till now to talk about it.

it was a big deal the whole week.  porscha and amber would set colors in queue for me.

i went from having only 52 squares done to 90!!!  90 squares!!!  sadly it has been sitting on the sidelines since then but i think it will come back out for basketball season.  easy no brain knitting works best when watching sports!

i can't wait for this to be done.  it is going to be so cozy!

she brought it back

a few weeks back i posted about these great hobo lunch bags.  i mentioned how i made one for my niece.  she was home for the weekend from school.  i told her that if she brought it back next time she was home i would fill it up again.

she came to see amber.  she dotes on amber.

they made slice cookies.  my niece chalked on a place mat while they waited for them to be done.  i marvel at how she embraces being a kid still when she comes to hang out with amber.

well she brought home her hobo lunch bag this weekend. i love that she brought it home.  just absolutely, smile on my face, warm my heart, love that she brought it home.  she got muffins.

best recipe ever.  one of my girls favorites.  made over and over through the years.  always they want chocolate chip.  the recipe doubles so well and lately i have doubled it and added dried cranberries to half of the batter.  so good.

::sweet muffins::
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup oil

you can just throw it all in and mix it up.  i sometimes add a little more milk if it seems too thick.  use baking cups or grease muffin tins.  bake at 350 till just barely golden.  about 15 to 20 minutes.

the recipe came from an old betty crocker cookbook that john's mom owns.  honestly i have been making these for 15 years...easily.  i know the recipe off the top of my head.  now that is a good recipe.  one you make so often that you know it by heart.

speaking of awesomego enter to win the book of even more awesome.  all you have to do is tell me one of your awesomes.  so easy.  they are around us everywhere.  like the hobo bag coming home!!!  oh and can i add how stoked i am that neil commented on the giveaway post!!!

happy tuesday!

saving sunday

i was visiting leslie's blog.  today she shared sarah's idea, saving sunday.  i like this.  i like the thought of taking a moment to reflect on the week behind me, relishing in what i have accomplished.  looking forward to the week ahead, taking time to carefully consider where my energy needs to go in the upcoming days.

now sprawled out on my bed typing with one of my best friends.

saving sunday.

cheers to the week that awaits me.

i went to get the computer cord to add max's photo and found amber asleep on the couch.  half hanging off the couch.  more saving sunday.  perfect!

thankful, awesome and a giveaway

a beautiful day.  we just could not ask for better weather to celebrate thanksgiving weekend.  it was a rough week.  i don't want to complain.  i should not complain.  it the grand scheme that is life, i am awesome!!  but still we all handle things differently.  what one person can be given and rise above another can not.  this weekend finds me feeling like i can tackle it all.  i guess a good nights sleep and waking at 7:00 am because you want to and not because you have to helps. knowing monday is a free day with nothing having to happen helps. with free monday thoughts and that good nights rest comes vigour for me to met the day and do the things i love.  like waffles from scratch for breakfast.

this recipe is so great. not really super hard and they come out real awesome!  porscha did ask why we can't have breakfasts like this every morning.  good heavens.  no.  plain and simple no.

one day this week a co-worker left me a note with two brownies she'd made.  she knew all about our brownie summer.  she is the same co-worker that left this note.  it made me smile and the brownies did not last long.  it is those little awesome things that people do that make life just that bit better.  taking time to do something very simple for someone.  simple yet so amazingly awesome

it is those little awesomes that help centre me after a tough week.  like cleaning up art supplies to find a hidden message.  those are the awesome little things.

life has taken hold of me. some days it is kicking my butt.  some today i feel so capable.  other days i want to cry because i didn't sign up for this.  i didn't sign up to navigate college for my special needs daughter and services or lack of services.  i didn't sign up to have to plan my day around having to go to the college to help her use the washroom because the wait list for services is as long as my arm. i didn't sign up for being a primary caregiver to someone.  i just want to be a normal mom.  i want the freedoms other moms have.

i know that belly aching about it does not take it away.  that is why i strive very hard to stay positive.  it is what clears my head and helps me through the haze some days.  keeping an eye on the little awesome things in life, those are what help me keep perspective.  those are what keep me thankful.

(leslie's chalk board placemats being put to good use again)

i know how easy it is to lose sight of the good things in life.  to wallow in self pity.  but life is such a gift.  everyday is a present to open.

speaking of opening...

i received this in the mail the other week.  i have been wanting to find the perfect time to give it away.

neil pasricha has this all down.  his 3 a's of awesome.  his first book, the book of awesome, had me hook line and sinker.  although i found his book first, it all began with his website.  love it.  i have yet to read this new book but after browsing through this copy it is on my list of to reads.

so in the name of awesome things i am giving this book to one lucky reader.  leave a comment and tell me about an little awesome in your life by next saturday october 15th at midnight and i will have amber draw a name out of the hat!!!!

have a thankful weekend and look for those little awesomes.

giveaway is done::comments closed.

think green

the other day i mentioned how i was getting green.  i don't mean green green, like recycling green, rather more green in my diet.

there is the green tea.  i like it with some honey in it. i use to drink it before but somehow got out of the  habit.  that whole falling into old bad habits thing happening.

then there is liquid sunshine

3 huge handfuls of kale :: 4 romaine leaves :: 3-4 stalks celery :: slice of ginger :: 1 whole peeled cucumber :: 1 pear. add the cucumber last. it adds all the water. you can add a kiwi for a little extra zing.

now i think mine does not look so great because i think i need a better blender or even a juice maker.   leslie's sisters looks more appealing.

porscha says it looks like baby pooh.

i do think that using a juicer would make it better.  i want to venture out and try some other green smoothies.  i think it is a great way to get healthy and stay healthy.

so i am not just green.....fruit smoothies.  love.

my fruit smoothie recipe:

1/2 cup soy milk
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/4 cup yogurt
1 banana
2 tsp. frozen orange concentrate

so so good!
another great thing i saw on leslie's blog.

granola bars.

2 cups rolled oats + 1/2 cup to grind :: 1/2 cup sliced almonds :: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts :: 1/2 cup sunflower seeds :: 3/4 cup dried berries :: 1 can condensed sweetened milk.

they are good.  good energy food.  one of these with a smoothie and i am good to tackle the day.

it is all about fueling my body to handle life.  when i put in that cheap processed fuel i feel like crap and it is harder to stay balanced.  but good healthy fuel does wonders.

so cheers to smoothies and healthy choices!

well okay that and chocolate!

a school tournament.  they won all three games. tournament champions!  she played amazing.  won the mvp t-shirt.  they all got white t-shirts as well.  we got a group shot of them wearing the white ones.  she would not put the yellow one on while still at the gym.

when we got home she cleaned up and changed and wore the yellow shirt to go to home depot and costcos.

she was proud of it but is humble.  i love this about her.

way to go porscha!
